GOD’S LURV

Loving in an unselfish way elevates a man to the nature of God. Only God has a nature which is not impoverished by an act of charity. His nature is like the mind of a man which can give an idea away without losing the idea. When God gives, he is just as rich as ever; in labour he is not fatigued; enjoying unending happiness, he cannot suffer pain. But when Christ became man, he loved as men love. When he gave away property, he was poor; fasting, he became hungry; after he had been labouring, he was fatigued; deserted by God, he sweat blood in agony; crucified he felt pain. Yet, in the Resurrection, Christ loved as God loves. Hence, if a man loves unselfishly in imitation of Christ and assured of resurrection, he can love as God loves. The “reward” which Almighty God gives to a man for an act of generous love enables him to love without impoverishment as God loves. As a matter of fact, since the reward is much greater than the cost of the act, a man becomes rich by becoming poor; he attains pleasure by enduring pain; he secures his rights by exercising meekness; he gains friends by being persecuted.
